Iván López Villegas

Software engineer in Mexico City

Over eight years of software development. My latest role was at Solera, where I worked on a CRM platform used by ~3,200 automotive dealerships: backend in C#/.NET, SQL Server and CI/CD. I have been the escalation point when production breaks, moved legacy systems to the web, and founded the local CRM team in Mexico, as both developer and Scrum Master.

I am looking for a Software Engineer III role in .NET.

When I'm not coding, I make pottery. I'm also into dinosaurs and video games.

PaleoSharp

A game for learning C# by programming EXC-1, a paleontologist robot. It starts with your first line of code and ends with SE II and SE III interview problems. I built it to train for my own interviews, and it runs entirely in your browser. Since a young age, video games and the competitive world have been part of my learning; PaleoSharp brings that together with my craft.

30 excavation levels, 52 interview-style challenges and 38 lessons with quizzes. The game text is in Spanish.

Best played on a computer with a keyboard.

A PaleoSharp level: a 13 by 5 excavation grid with EXC-1, two raptors and a flag.

How it is built

  • Roslyn, the C# compiler, runs inside the browser on WebAssembly in a Web Worker. There is no server: the site is static.
  • Before running, an analyzer checks which APIs the program uses and a syntax rewriter injects guards against infinite loops and runaway recursion.
  • Challenges are graded with hidden cases and time limits relative to the reference solution, measured on the same machine. An O(n²) solution still fails even though the code runs interpreted.
  • The same core runs on desktop (Godot) and on the web, covered by 366 automated tests.

Technologies: C#, .NET 8, Roslyn, WebAssembly, React, TypeScript, Godot

Experience

What I do well

  • Resolving production incidents as the technical escalation point, from a generic error to root cause.
  • Migrating legacy systems: from Visual FoxPro to the web, or from one framework and database to their newer versions.
  • Leading without a formal title: I founded the local CRM team, mentored teammates and facilitated the team as Scrum Master while developing.
  • Working with teams in Mexico, India, the US and China.
  • Shipping with CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy), observing with ELK and orchestrating AI inside the pipeline.
